REALITY - GAIA MANIFEST OF TRANSCENDENT IMMANENCE
My major mission here is to try to bring into a Gaian context an extraordinary mystical experience - a classical Nirvikalpa Samadhi that was responsible for imbuing me with all my concerns about environmentalism. It occurred back in 1970 and at the time I was a 42-year-old guy- totally self-absorbed and pursuing a hedonistic, materialistic life style with virtually no interest, knowledge or concerns about "external" issues such as environmentalism or spirituality. The experience triggered a slow metamorphous that has evolved over the past thirty-five years, to finally raising my Gaian ethos. I am totally dedicated to supporting Gaia- conceived not as an anthropomorphic goddess but as the totality of nature- life, matter and cosmic energy as immanent manifest of a transcendent consciousness. It appears that my timing in creating the Maya-Gaia samadhi chronicles is in synchronicity with the evolution of a holistic Gaian metaparadigm that holds promise to envelope all the limited epistemological and ontological approaches to knowing that civilization has imagined over the millennia. |

Gaia Symbol and Reality If we accept James Lovelock's Gaia Theory - what is inescapable, is that human civilization is analogous to Earth's cancer. The personal challenge then, for each of us, is to evolve from a virulent to a benign strain, by raising our environmental consciousness. Beyond the metaphor for Earth as a holistic self-regulating organism, Gaia can also be perceived as somewhat similar to the divine feminine of Daoist yang, the Hindu Shakti, Lakshmi and Devi- a manifestation of all immanent cosmic reality as well as the Sophia of the gnostics.

I expect the practical effect of my particular insight on the energy already in motion will be minimal since the message has already been eloquently defined and is reaching critical mass in capturing the public imagination. I do think it can help confirm the spiritual relationship between the Gaian ideology and ultimate reality as revealed via the classical transcendence described in the perennial philosophies of Vedanta, Tao, Buddhism and Tantra. For uber-skeptics my account of my Nirvikalpa Samadhi will not advance those concepts beyond their philosophical mythos. For those whose Gaia consciousness is already raised or may seek a direct transcendent experience- my example may help illuminate their path.
